BIRAC E-YUVA Centre @ PSGRKCW was established in 2021 with support from BIRAC. The vision of the centre is to stimulate, foster and empower students with a culture of applied research and enhance need-oriented innovation capabilities among young students and researchers for creating affordable solutions addressing the needs of the society. This centre acts as a pre-incubation space providing infrastructure and equipment for basic research and experimentation by selected students. The centre is governed by Dr. B. S. Chithra Devi (Designated Project Investigator), Dr. Ramkumar .G (Project Coordinator) and supported by the Department of Botany at KCW

Our centre mainly focuses on Industrial Biotechnology : Product and Proceses, which includes Food Technology, Health care, Enzymology and Bioplastics. Our knowledge partner is Golden Jubilee Biotech Park for Women, Chennai providing requisite support and overall guidance to the centre.
E YUVA scheme provides support under following two categories:
I. Innovation Fellows
For PhD / Post graduates
Monthly fellowship grant – INR 50,000
Annual Research Grant of INR 7,50,000 for 18 months.(For post doctoral candidates)
II. BIRAC’s E-YUVA Fellows
For UG students Quarterly Stipend: INR 7,500 per quarter per student of the team (5 members per team)
Annual research grant: INR 2,50,000 per team for a period of 12 months

- “Awareness on BIRAC E-YUVA Schemes” by Dr.Chhaya Chauhan, Sr. Manager Incubation, BioNest- BIRAC was conducted on March 2,2022 at 2:30 PM IST via Zoom platform.
- “Awareness Programme on Bio- Entrepreneurship and BIRAC Schemes” by three speakers – Dr. Sheela Sasikumar (Director- Clinical Research, S.S. Healthcare), Dr. Bandita Panda (Registered Indian Patent Agent (IN/PA/1880) & SIPP Startup Facilitator), and Dr. Sudhakaran (General Manager at Golden Jubilee Biotech Park for Women) was conducted on March 24,2022 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM IST via Zoom platform.
- “An orientation on BIRAC E-YUVA Fellowship” was conducted by Dr. Rijesh K, Project Coordinator, BIRAC E-YUVA Center on March 23,2022 for students at Kristu Jayanti College, Bangalore and PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.
- The centre in association with Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), Bengaluru, organized a workshop “Fostering the Entrepreneurial Spirit through Experiential Interaction” as a part of National Life Science Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme of BREC (BIRAC Regional Entrepreneurship Centre) on the 27th of September 2022
- The BIRAC EYUVA Programme Launch Event was conducted on 7th October 2022, in the GRG Centenary Sports Arena. Dr. Manish Diwan, Head-Strategy Partnership and Entrepreneurship Development, BIRAC, Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi officially launched the EYUVA Programme. Prof. P. M. Murali, President, Council of Presidents, ABLE India, Chairman – Golden Jubilee Biotech Park for Women Society, Chennai and Dr. K Suresh Kumar, Executive Director, PSG-STEP, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore presided over the function.
- On 3rd November a One-on-One Mentoring Session for the Innovation Fellows with Dr. Suguna Shanmugasundaram was conducted including discussion about the fellow’s progress, brainstorming session about the difficulties faced during research, discussion on work plan of the fellow
- On 7th of November, an interactive section was organized by BIRAC EYUVA Centre @PSGR Krishnammal College for Women. Dr. D. Sambashiva, Treasurer – Federation of Asia Biotech Associations (FABA) addressed the Innovation and EYUVA fellows. FABA was established in 2005 and their mission is to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the biotech industry, academia, and healthcare sector.
