The Story

KCW (PSGR Krishnammal College for Women), inaugurated in June 1963 under the aegis of the GRG Trust of Coimbatore has grown over the last six decades into a temple of learning and academic excellence. Founded on a motto of ‘empowering through education’, the ‘women-only’ KCW symbolizes knowledge, love, and service.

KCW is an autonomous college of higher education for women. It is affiliated to the Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, ranked #7 among colleges in India in NIRF, accredited with the highest A++ grade by NAAC, and a UGC-certified ‘College of Excellence’. Serving 8,500+ students with 400+ faculty, KCW is recognised for its impact on society through its academic programmes, holistic approach, community outreach, and an enduring vision for the future.

The journey has not been easy. It has demanded dedication and commitment to a purpose, unbridled passion and perseverance, and an indomitable spirit of entrepreneurship. In this journey, KCW has crossed numerous milestones worthy of appreciation. From being the first college in Tamil Nadu to introduce the BCom programme for women to establishment of an MBA programme for women in 1993, KCW has been a trailblazer. It was accredited by NAAC for the first time in 2001 and is currently enjoying A++ grade in its 4th cycle of accreditation. KCW was granted autonomous status by UGC in 2004 and certified as a ‘College of Excellence’ in 2016. During this period, KCW set up specialized and focused centres for Gandhian Studies, Ambedkar Studies and Women Studies. All the science departments have since been granted ‘Star’ status by DST.

KCW celebrated its golden jubilee in 2013 with great pride and a spirit of fulfilment. It was followed by more – establishment of the Rural Women Technology Park, Food Quality Testing Laboratory, Centres of Excellence in Life Sciences, for Advanced Materials and Sustainable Technologies, for Commerce Professionals, and for Sector Skill Council in Apparel, Mede-ups and Home Furnishing. A pioneering Digital Innovation Dojo in partnership with Elgi, Centre for Women Leadership, GRG Gen Next Foundation (incubator for start-ups) and other initiatives have provided a boost to KCW’s push for the future.

KCW has established international collaborative partnerships with premier universities and institutions around the world. These include San Diego State University, Oregon State University, University of Michigan-Dearborn, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, University of Baltimore, and Binghamton University in the USA; CETYS Universidad in Mexico; Nottingham Trent University in the UK; University of Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania; and, Swinburne University of Technology, Asia Pacific University and Universiti Malaysia Pahang in Malaysia. These partnerships are aimed at facilitating study-abroad programmes, faculty and student mobility, and collaborative research.

That’s not all. Keeping pace with the changing landscape of educational environment and changing aspirations of the GenZ, KCW has also partnered with leading global organisations such as Unity.com for programmes in MR/VR/AR, UiPath in Robotic Process Automation, and Tata Consultancy Services in Business Process Management and Cognitive Systems.

Aligning with KCW's vision of holistic development of students, a state-of-the-art GRG Centenary Sports Arena offers an excellent platform for nurturing sports and the overall physical and mental well-being of the students. NCC, NSS, Clubs and Student Associations are where students hone their leadership skills and demonstrate their talents.

Over the last 60 years, the KCW Brand has come to signify excellence in education in South India with more than the 100,000 alumnae spread across 25+ countries around the globe. KCW's relentless pursuit for excellence continues and its journey goes on...
