The Department of Zoology was established in the year 1979 with an undergraduate programme and upgraded to a post graduate programme in the year 2018. In the year 2014 the department was recognized as a Research Department; however, research has been undertaken by the faculty members since 2009 and six minor projects sponsored by DST- IEDC, two major projects from UGC and one major project sponsored by DST-NRDMS has been completed so far. The department also received international recognition through TWAS Fellowship. The research interests of the faculty members are from diverse fields of Zoology such as Environmental Studies, Remote sensing, Entomology, Aquatic Toxicology, Micro Paleontology and Cell signaling. Various community-oriented extension activities to rural communities are undertaken through National Schemes such as Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) to enhance Entrepreneurship and rural development by the faculty and the students.
